About How to Podcast

How to Podcast is a free, step-by-step guide to making a podcast. It follows the four Ps (plan, produce, publish and promote) and includes a hands-on Audacity tutorial for editing your episodes, plus small tools that run in your browser.

This site’s history

A podcasting tutorial was first published at this address in the mid-2000s, and many schools, libraries and blogs linked to it. That original tutorial is no longer online. This site is a new, independent guide by a new owner, written from scratch for today’s apps, hosts and software. It keeps the same addresses for its main pages, so links people shared years ago still lead to a useful, up-to-date answer.

How we write

  • Every guide is written for beginners and checked against the official documentation of the software and directories it describes.
  • We don’t accept payment for recommendations, and we name products only as examples.
  • Software changes. Each page shows when it was last updated; if something has moved, the official help for that product is the best source.

We are not affiliated with Audacity, Apple, Spotify, YouTube or any podcast host.
